Ez a történet kicsit hoszabb bejegyzést is megérdemel. 2007 őszén nyilvános tervpályázatot hirdetett a Clark Ádám téri sarok-foghíj beépítéséra a fejlesztő(!), a UNIONE-Clark Kft. A városképileg kiemelt jelentőségű, és különösen nehéz formájú telek a háború óta beépítetlenül maradt, mert az azóta kialakult forgalmi rend nem teszi kívánatossá az eredetileg derékszögű beépítést. A pályázatra 59 pályamű érkezett be, köztük sok Magyarországon kívüli irodákból.

This story deserves a longer post. The developer (UNIONE-Clark Kft.) of the corner-plot at Clark Ádám square announced an architectural competition for a future hotel. The plot is in a frequent location important for the cityscape, but has a strange triangular shape. It was never again built in after the original building was bombed during the WWII, because the changed traffic system didn’t allow to build the original rectangular typology. The jury had to choose from 59 entries from Hungarian and also international firms.

A győztes terv rögtön heves viták tárgya lett. / The winning project became immediately subject to heavy discussions.

Mivel a második hely nem kötelezte a beruházót, a tervet elvetették. / The project was dropped, as the second prize didn’t obligate the developer to continue with the winner.

A további díjazottakkal folytatta a tárgyalást a beruházó, négyen dolgoztak tovább a terveken. / As the developer continued to negotiate withe the prize winning offices, four of these continued to work.

Az egyik ígéretes terv továbbdolgozva: Albert Abut (Atlantis Associates) – Új Irány – Ivánka Beton, 2008.

Az UNIONE-Clark végül egy kívülálló építészt, dr. Anthony Gallt kérte fel a hotel megtervezésére, aki a különleges telekformára a lehető legkézenfekvőbb megoldással feszítette rá a hotelt, hagyományos kőburkolatos lukarchitektúrával és zavaros eredetű díszítéssel.A terv engedélyeztetés alatt van.

The UNIONE-Clark gave the work to an outsider, the Australian-Hungarian architect dr. Anthony Gall. He gave the most obvious answer how to strech the hotel functions on the strange plot with traditional architectural forms and a stone facade with some out-of-date decorative elements. The project awaits for the authorities permits.

A Chalupa Architects közel 10 évig tervezte ezt a belvárosi hotelt.
